How do you clean/sanitize the water filtration system on a refrigerator?

It was never hooked up to a water line while it was in there but I don’t feel comfortable just buying a new hose and filter and letting the water drain out for a couple minutes.
If there is some sanitizing method you can share with me then great! Think I should get a technician? Do I need one?

Are water that comes out of a whole house water filtration system safe to water plants with?

There’s a lot of water that comes out of the whole house water filtration system when it cleans itself. Mine is made by Kinetico and it’s comes with 2 filter tanks and 1 softener tank. Can I water plants with that water? It is safe for lawn and other plant life? I **** to see all that water go to waste.
