Would it be safe if a baby had 7 oz of pure formula without the water?
mrs.roberts1976 asked:
I would normally prepare the formula with water prior to putting it in the fridge but the water wasn’t cooled down enough so I just had the formula in it’s container and I put it in the fridge telling myself that once the water was cooled I would add it. Well when the time came around to his feeding I completely forgot and gave it to him. He drank all 7 ounces. I feel terrible. Any input or info would be greatly appreciated.

It will not harm baby if it was on time, it is just concentrated and baby didn’t recieve water like they need,

You may want to call your pediatrician, eating straight formula can be really hard on the baby’s tummy. See if you can feed him some water.
The formula contains a lot of Iron, so it’s possible that it will really constipate the baby.

My Husband did the same thing.
just watch and make sure he doesn’t get sick.
He says don’t do it all the time. Our son is just fine.

It shouldn’t harm the your baby. And don’t feel so bad about it .If this is the only mistake you make. Consider yourself blessed. If this is your first child or even your sixth child you will make mistakes. That is the way we all learn.

It could cause an elctrolyte imbalance and probably sicknesss. Just watch him and make sure he isn’t sick or anything. If it were mine I’d put some sugar water in a bottle and see if he’d take a little. Not a lot you don’t want to fill him up on water but it will ease your mind.
It’s okay, we’ve all been there! Don’t feel guilty!! My son picked up his sippy cup today and I had forgotten to empty the milk for a few hours earlier. He took a few swigs when I realized I didn’t empty or wash it
(( I felt horrible!!

Your baby will be fine. =) If it will make you feel better put a little more wateer then usual in the next bottle. I wouldn’t give them pure water if they are young because it will fill them up and will mess up their schedule. It probably will constipate them though so be prepared for a cranky baby. LOL Mine are cranky all day for 4 years so it is nothing new. =P Good luck and give the baby lots of lovin’. =)

Give your baby a bottle of water now. The formula may cause constipation and is quite painful ~ also it can harm the baby’s intestines or rectum.
Please call the hospital to speak to the MATERNITY nurse. Tell her what happened and ask for advice.~

The worst that can happen is that he would spit up more than usual after that bottle, and maybe be a bit constipated for a few days, but even that isn’t likely.
Formula by itself on a regular basis might cause some stomach problems for the baby, but a one time mistake isn’t going to harm him.
Relax. Don’t be so hard on yourself. All moms make a mistake or two in the beginning.

Give him a bottle of the plain water-what you would have added to the formula. He’ll be fine.

It won’t hurt him just this one time. If he does have constipation from this try some warm water and prune juice. Not too much you don’t want the reverse reaction to happen. If this is the worst mistake you’ve made being a mother, then don’t feel bad. I once was soooo tired I gave my twins formula with cereal, I fell asleep feeding them and to my dismay I woke up and they hadn’t eaten a thing. The cereal was clogged in the bottle and they couldn’t get any milk. (I felt so bad) Or worse, my son was whining in the back seat while I was driving, so I gave him his bottle…He threw it back at me after about 30 seconds. I found out the inner cap was still on the bottle.

Watch for constipation from the iron in the formula.
Normally I wouldn’t suggest giving a baby water, but in this case it might be a good idea to help make sure he gets enough fluids.
I know that kidney and liver damage can result from too much formula, but hopefully one mistake won’t be enough to cause a problem. I would ask the doc/nurse about giving some water though. Call your caregiver or the hospital’s ask a nurse line and see what they say.
